Why Teaching Kids to Code in Awka Is Not a Luxury: It Is Infrastructure
At TEKHUB Kids Coding, we do not just teach Scratch and Python. We teach children to decompose problems, build logic, and think computationally. Here is why that matters for Anambra State as a whole.
01What "Infrastructure" Actually Means Here
Roads and power are infrastructure because everything else depends on them. The same logic applies to the skills a region's next generation carries into adulthood. A child who learns to break a big, confusing problem into small, solvable pieces at age nine carries that habit into every subject, every career, and every business they eventually build. That's the argument for calling kids coding infrastructure rather than a luxury add-on: it's not really about producing more programmers, it's about producing better problem-solvers, at scale, early.
02Beyond Scratch and Python
At TEKHUB Kids Coding, Scratch and beginner Python are the tools, not the point. The actual skill being built is computational thinking: decomposing a big goal into smaller steps, recognizing patterns, spotting the logical rule behind a repeated task, and debugging calmly when something doesn't work the first time. A child who can do that has a transferable skill that outlasts any specific programming language they happened to learn it with.
03Why Anambra State, Specifically
Anambra has a genuine trading and entrepreneurial culture already; Awka and the wider state produce ambitious young people who build businesses out of necessity and instinct. Pairing that instinct with computational thinking early, rather than waiting until university or a career pivot in someone's twenties, compounds. A teenager who already thinks in systems has a real head start when they later encounter formal programming, data, or any technical field, TEKHUB's own Academy tracks included.
04What a Session Actually Looks Like
Ages 7 to 15, small groups, hands-on from the first session, not lecture-heavy. Younger learners work in Scratch's block-based environment to build simple games and animations, which teaches sequencing and logic without the friction of syntax. Older learners move into beginner Python once the underlying thinking is solid. Every session ends with something the child actually built and can show a parent, which matters more for motivation than any amount of theory.
